Arrive into Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station, from where you will drive to Gangtok for a stay of two nights. With a backdrop of the Himalayas, Sikkim offers breathtaking vistas, colourful lifestyles, Buddhist shrines, adventure and watersport activities, and an exquisite abundance of flora and fauna – including hundreds of varieties of butterflies – all close to the capital, Gangtok.
A very early morning drive out to Tashi View Point, which offers magnificent views of Mount Kanchenjunga and a number of ancient monasteries across the mountainsides. After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Rumtek Gompa – the largest monastery in Sikkim and the seat of the head of the Kagyu order of Tibetan Buddhism. The afternoon is free; you may take an optional tour to the Do-Drul Chorten stupa and a local handicrafts centre.
Today you drive from Gangtok to Kalimpong, where you will stay for one night. In the afternoon, visit the town’s Bhutanese monasteries.
This morning, drive from Kalimpong to Pemayangtse, whose haunting monastery is poised high above the Rangit River. You will be booked here for a one-night stay.
This morning, drive from Pemayangtse to Darjeeling, where you will be booked for three nights. This hill station is the most important in eastern India and is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Himalayas. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Very early morning, visit Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over the mountains – a special experience at this renowned site. Then embark on a walking tour of the city. In the afternoon, take an optional visit to a nearby tea plantation.
Today you visit Observatory Hill, sacred to Lord Shiva, which offers an excellent viewpoint of the twin peaks of Kangchendzonga (Kanchenjunga). In the afternoon, go on an optional tour of the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre, where you can watch Tibetan refugees weaving, spinning and dyeing.
In the morning, drive from Darjeeling to Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station for your onward journey.
